Consultation
Snowflake Education Services (SES) consults with the child’s other specialists (such as psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, teachers etc.) to establish a united team that has the child’s needs as the focal point. Through consultation, SES learns about the child’s strengths, weaknesses, and what teaching techniques may prove most effective in a classroom setting.
Remedial Lessons
Remedial lessons in an area of need, such as reading, math, or writing, will take place weekly. While targeting academic goals, these remedial lessons will include practicing techniques identified through the above-mentioned consultations to help the child integrate goals into a new setting, a vital step in generalizing techniques to be used outside of a specialist’s office. Examples of integrating techniques during remedial lessons may include: relaxation techniques for anxiety, sound pronunciation from speech, or grip work from occupational therapy. Group lessons will focus on social skills and in all lessons an emphasis will be placed on building self-esteem. The remedial lessons are the core of the objective and provide SES an opportunity to observe the child’s strengths and areas of weakness in an academic setting. This handcrafted approach, made possible by dedication to individual attention, allows SES to discover what classroom techniques work for each individual child.
Advocacy
SES advocates for the child at his or her school through special education meetings, serving as a liaison between the specialists and the school system to establish clear communication and realistic goals for the child in an academic setting with the least restrictive environment.
